WHY SHOULD I GO TO CHURCH?
One of the greatest tragedies in our society today is the fact that so many people have forsaken the church. They either do not attend at all, or attend so irregularly that it is of no real benefit to them or to society. You might expect this with non-Christian people, but so many of these people claim to believe in God and claim to be Christians.
Why is church such an important issue? Why isn’t it good enough for me just to believe in God and worship in my own way? Here are six reasons that we should go to a Bible-believing, gospel-preaching church.
Reason #2: Jesus loves the church, and we should too. “Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it,” Eph. 5:25. The Bible speaks of “the church of God, which He hath purchased with His own blood” Acts 20:28. If Jesus loved the church enough to suffer, and bleed, and die for it, shouldn’t we love it too?
Reason #4: We give evidence of our salvation. “We know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death,” 1 Jn. 3:14. When we love people, we want to be with them. Those who do not love their Christian brothers and sisters enough to want to be with them in church may not be saved. If you do not love the brethren, then “examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith,” 2 Cor. 13:5.
Often times we are proud and like to pretend that we can go through life without any help. The truth is God wants us to fellowship and share in our lives together. He made us that way.
Reason #6: The church is our place for Christian service. “Seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church,” 1 Cor. 14:12. The church is the place where we should give our time, talents, energies, and resources to serve the Lord. The Bible says the church is like a body with each member contributing something to its overall well-being (1 Cor. 12:12). By being involved in the ministry of a good church, we help make a difference in people’s lives, not just for time but for all eternity. We help strengthen the moral and spiritual fabric of society; and at the same time, we help people find the way of salvation. There is no greater cause that we can give ourselves to than that of local church ministry.
